The Gastrointestinal Oncology Translational Lab (PI, Manish A Shah MD) is focused on advancing our understanding of gastrointestinal malignancies to improve patient care. Over the past 20 years, we have witnessed a revolution in our understanding of cancer. Instead of grouping diseases together (i.e. stomach, esophagus, and gastroesophageal junction all as upper GI), we have been able to characterize disease as having specific molecular subtypes. This is particularly important as we entered the era of targeted therapy in solid tumor oncology. To this end, we use the latest tools to better characterize disease and the substrate it lies in to understand drivers of treatment resistance and how they may be leveraged to improve therapeutic efficacy.
Collaborations
We are a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary research team, taking advantage of the expertise both here at Weill Cornell, but everywhere else. Weill Cornell is one of the top-ranked research institutions in the United States, and the Gastrointestinal Oncology Program is one of the most productive programs in the country. We are affiliated with New York-Presbyterian Hospital, the #1 ranked hospital in New York for over 20 years. We have access to state-of-the-art technology, world-renowned labs with incredible expertise, and a wide array of investigators and clinical trials to draw on for resources.
Job Opportunities
We are always looking for motivated individuals who are excited to work in an active translational lab. We routinely receive patient samples that require diligent handling and processing. These samples have provided invaluable material for further annotation and characterization, from which important insights have been made. People with computational experience are also needed as we have a rich resource of tissue and blood samples that have been annotated but need further computational characterization.
